Overview

The VP Financial Development will direct the fundraising efforts focused on securing large, multi-year and long-term donations through cultivating relationships with identified corporations, foundation and high-net-worth individuals and developing major and planned giving strategies, all while ensuring alignment with the YMCA's strategic plan and resource development goals. Also, leads, plans, and implements strategies to achieve yearly retention and upgrade goals for current donors.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Case For Support - Determine fundable projects and programs with the senior staff and oversee the production of templated materials that appropriately presents them for consideration of individual donors, corporations, and foundations
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies: Manages the identification, qualification, and research of prospects for major and leadership gift cultivation, engagement, and stewardship
  • Create and execute plans for attracting and retaining major donors and cultivating planned giving opportunities
  • Set revenue goals: Establish realistic and ambitious targets for major and planned gifts, contributing to the overall fundraising success of the organization. Use YMCA CRM data and wealth screening to support goals and prospect identification
  • Lead and motivate Major Gift Officers: Oversee and mentor these fundraising professional(s), providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities
  • Collaborate with other departments: Work closely with other areas, such as the office of the President/CEO, Marketing & Communications, Operations, and Finance, to ensure a unified approach to fundraising
  • Donor Relations and Cultivation: Research, identify, and build relationships with corporations, foundations and individuals who have the capacity to make significant gifts. Maintain research on foundations, create proposal timelines, write grants (when necessary), and maintain all reporting and stewardship as appropriate
  • Develop and manage a personal portfolio of major donors: Top 20/Next 30; Maintain strong relationships with existing donors, seeking opportunities to deepen their involvement and secure additional gifts
  • Plan and execute major gift and corporate sponsorship solicitations: Develop and implement effective strategies for approaching and soliciting major gifts and corporate sponsorships
  • Develop and implement planned giving strategies: Create and execute plans for attracting and retaining donors who are interested in making gifts through their estates, non-cash giving assets (DAF’s, stocks, crypto, etc.) and planned giving vehicles. Work closely with donors, their financial advisors, and legal professionals to develop and implement tailored giving plans that align with their financial and philanthropic goals
  • Develop and implement specific Stewardship plans for Major and Planned Giving donors
  • Acknowledgement and Recognition – Create opportunities and mechanisms for meaningful donor recognition, taking into consideration such factors as donors’ preferences (for example, anonymity and the format in which their names are presented) and organizational culture and values. Help everyone understand that recognition is the public form of donor acknowledgement, and ranges from activities that are automatic organizational responses to giving, such as giving societies, to those that are undertaken with the involvement of the donors, as is the case with named programs and funds
  • Direct the Donor Reporting efforts to ensure they share the information that is also qualitative, which is the storytelling that confirms to the donor that the investment was a sound one because the support is making a difference in the mission of the organization

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Manage the department budget: Oversee the budget for the financial development team, ensuring effective resource allocation and spending

Volunteer Engagement

  • Work with EVP, Board members and volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizational sources of major gift support relevant to top priority needs
  • Consult with local Y’s as appropriate to further develop strategic initiatives that leverage state alliance networks, expertise, and philanthropic support
  • When appropriate, ensure staff and volunteer leadership are equipped with management resources, engaged strategically, and supported to help them deepen the connection with the YMCA of specific funders and/or prospects

Administrative

  • Inform strategic planning and campaign ambitions through insights about potential for growth using wealth screen, data aggregation and interpretation opportunities, research opportunities and others that become known.
  • Supervises departmental staff and independent contractors identified

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and management skills: Ability to lead, motivate, and support the professional development of key financial development staff and related leadership volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: Ability to build strong relationships with donors, staff, and other potential donors and partners
  • Proven fundraising experience: Extensive experience in major and/or planned giving fundraising
  • Proven skills in working cross functionally and collaboratively to ensure alignment across full organization
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices: Understanding of fundraising strategies, donor cultivation, and stewardship
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Experience in estate planning, wealth management, or financial services is a plus

Posted Salary Range

USD $179,300.00 - USD $239,000.00 /Yr.
